  3. The 5’s mean that the piece is a ‘Grade 5’ as noted in the Texas PML (Prescribed Music List). ‘X’s’ mean that the piece is not in the PML. Marches are not graded. If there are two ‘X’s’, that means that a piece (non-march) is new and has not been yet been graded and listed in the PML. To play one of these pieces, directors must petition and have Texas UIL Music approve the selection.

  4. Keller Central was a surprise to me. They've got big commanding sounds and still sounded really good even coming after Westlake. Really solid performance from them.

  6. I complete agree! Have been watching on box5 since Wylie East. Everyone has sounded amazing! I LOVE LOVE the Rockhill show and am so happy I got to see it live last weekend! I will admit, I was a little surprised prosper only went up to their ballad today, but it was clean.

  8. The number of top level bands in DFW is ridiculous. Areas B and C are so stacked.

  11. A better performance from SLC here than at Bedford for sure. Musically they seem to have a better grasp of the material, especially with all the woodwind runs in the opener. Visually there's still that odd performer or two that is struggling, but it's definitely better than last week. The closer seems a little weaker than the rest of the show right now, but they've got plenty of time to polish it.

  13. HS Band alignments are much like life, they do not always make sense and you will go crazy trying to figure them out. Alignments are one of the greater mysteries of the universe.

  14. i still reaaaally, reaaally like Vista Ridge's show. Veeeesta the Beaaasta. probably my most watched show this year. it's so so so exciting. they're just going for it. ofc i wish the guard were a bit bigger but u work with what u got. panel 2 does kinda suck at the top, by that i mean pretty loaded. if by chance panel 1 scores higher than panel 2, next 4 might be dicey for finals level bands in panel 2. makin' me even a little more nervous for tw. but i'm likin' the show a bit more. pretty much from the end of the 3rd part w/ i think that DmM7 chord and onward they're in business.

  15. Whelp, I've finally cracked off my shell and come out of my 10 month long hibernation and finally got to getting myself acquainted with our yearly fighters down here in TX. I only have a few thoughts so far, especially since I've only seen videos and won't be able to go to any actual even until maybe UIL State. I will preface this by saying I have not yet seen Hebron, but I'll add a little about that later. The first thing that has stuck out to me is my god Cedar Ridge and Vandegrift are good. I saw the results before watching the shows and was surprised at how big of a haymaker Cedar Ridge has thrown this year, and I'm here for it. Vandegrift has already become one of my favorites to win the southern grand nats this year, what an unbelievable show, it definitely has the potential, I think it will just come down to what TWHS and those pesky LISD bands up near Dallas are up to. Flower Mound is incredible. Despite the second place to Hebron, they could still easily contend for the title, if not a medal at the least. I've always loved their visual designs, I wish I could just go sit up in the rafters at the alamodome and watch their shows from up top every year. Marcus is musically dominant as always, I'm excited to see where these two end up in UIL, I think it's possible that it's an LISD sweep of UIL. But this is not a UIL thread, and that leaves me to talk about my greatest unknown yet, which is Hebron. I only saw results, and again, have not yet seen the show, but I was impressed that they were able to still win prelims despite the early draw, and winning by 1.6 and sweeping finals at that event is incredible. But, let me just copy and paste what my cousin sent me (marched crown and BD about a decade ago so he's someone who's opinion I actually trust). I'll have to do some cleaning of it to make it family friendly for this thread. (Going to add periods where the ends of texts are, so there was a minute or two between each) "Hebron is walking in right now! gonna be hard to beat flomo but I haven't seen their show yet so we'll just wait and see. the weeknd? interesting musical selection, but it's Michael Martin. Oh my god. Oh my god. There's just no way this is a high school. This is literally unreal. It's almost a joke even, the woodwinds have these crazy runs, and then hand it off to the brass who are like 'check out this double tonguing, and then big hit! But wait! Here's 4 seconds to gather your jaws, and then there's more! Check out this triple tonguing into a big hit! Here's 4 more seconds to lower your heart rate, BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! CHECK OUT THIS QUADRUPLE TONGUING INTO SPLIT RUNS WITH A G**D*** WATERFALL INTO A BIG HIT? Relentless. Give me more. Nothing better than a Hebron Jazz ballad. My ADHD is loving this closer so far. Holy **** this is insane." He also mentioned that it was dirty in parts, but it's Hebron, so I'm assuming that they're playing the hardest music and have plenty of time to clean before SA. I've also decided that I'm not going to even try to find a video of Hebron until I can see them live. Worth the wait 'm hoping. Gotta say I'm pumped though! I love the clash that always happens every fall, and this one is shaping up like it's going nothing short of an all-timer.

  18. With this comp a few days out, here are my final predictions. I could see the top 2 and 3-4 being changed, but here's what I'm going with 1. Wakeland(V/GE) 2. Westlake(M) 3. Waxahachie 4. Westwood 5. Southlake Carroll (Yes, last weekend didn't go as planned, but I have a feeling they will majorly bounce back here) 6. Owasso 7. Rockhill 8. Wylie East 9. Prosper 10. Choctaw(just here based on what I've heard about them) 11. Keller Central 12. Sachse/Boswell

  20. Final prediction for this contest from me! 1-3: Westlake, Westwood, Wakeland I feel pretty confident placing these three up here. A W will get a W! 4-6: Prosper, Wylie East, Waxahachie Prosper's first contests since HEB, I think they will come out and surprise! Wylie East was FAN.TAS.TIC at McKinney this past weekend! I am secretly hoping they make the move upwards. I love the Paris theme from Waxahachie and think they will also do very well 7-11: Owasso, Choctaw?, Keller Central, Rock Hill, Colleyville Heritage Owasso is a pretty consistent elite band in Oklahoma so they should fit here. I don't know much about Choctow, but they placed close to Owasso at the Renegade Review so i'll place them here. Rock Hill showed OUT at Dallas, and I think KC and Colleyville Heritage will be in finals as well! 12-15: Southlake Carroll, Burleson Centennial, Sachse, Rockwall The last spot in finals will be a fight. Sachse did place at Midland, but this will be a considerably deeper contest. Burleson was ahead of Rockwall at McKinney, but the gap was small. Southlake Carroll missed finals at Dallas by 0.6 points, and that contest was more stacked than this one will be. This will be a very strong contest!

  21. This is going to be a really good contest. So many great bands and none of the usual top 6 or so bands from DFW. Could be anyone's contest to win.

  23. I believe Marcus won State Marching Contest in 2014 and named TMEA Honor Band for 2015. And Westfield the same in 88-89.
