  1. I also had a tumblr sports blog for a while in college as a sports journalist. Absolutely clueless as to where the rest came from.

Hi folks! Hope your day is wonderful. Just a quick reminder that any attempt to misrepresent yourself or slander any programs in an inappropriate way will result in account restrictions or a permanent ban. Post responsibly

  3. Not to take anything away from Summit, but a majority of bands did not have a competitive season last year due to covid, and I believe Legacy’s numbers have suffered as well. However, Legacy jumped from 8th to 4th at POC, as well as jumped 4th to 2nd at their midlothian competition. I’m also a newbie to this marching band forum (joined a few days ago), but rising FOUR spots from prelims to finals seems like a large leap. I’m 100% sure that this is legacy’s best year since 2009 when they last made state. They placed 9th at area finals in 2019, and are much improved since then. I would say Legacy is here to give Summit some good, fun competition for years to come. All that being said, I will be rooting for Summit on Saturday and good luck to Legacy as well as the rest of the area F bands.

Yup, Saturday is what matters. Every band has been working to fix all the little things (and, in some cases, big things). It's all about execution now, and those who have worked on the right things and put in the work will likely have a good day on Saturday. Best of luck to all!

  5. I also agree. Being a summit alumni, I do have hope for them as they are doing extremely well this season. However, I feel Legacy’s show is stronger musically and has a better overall effect. Given that both bands have placed high at all competitions, and Legacy beat them at POC, I’m excited to see them compete head to head once more. Many people in this forum have been predicting summit to place top 3 at area finals, but I have yet to see evidence of why they are so confident. This area is cutthroat and several bands will be out for blood. Good luck to all the bands competing!

    UIL Area C 5A 2021

Correct!!!! I had to do some digging around since 12 Area Participants usually means that there is no Finals contest. However, because of several programs opting to do the Military track instead of Open Class, those Div 1 rating at Region still count! Area C 12 Area Participants (19 Area Qualifiers) 7 To Area Finals 3 To State Contest

I think the evidence is Summits placement over at Midland.

It was very peculiar all around but the judges ultimately got the best bands to state so I guess that’s what matters.

  10. I’m totally on board the CP hype train, it’s exciting to see them get back to their previous level of success after some rough years. It’s impressive to me that while many bands have taken a hit during Covid, CP seems to somehow have gotten BIGGER. I’ve been cautiously optimistic each of the last few years about CP after seeing some early videos, but the shows never quite got to the performance level that they appear to be getting to this year, that we are used to out of previous Cedar Park iterations. I don’t know if this will go down as one of my favorite CP shows (it’s got a bit too many musical ideas for me), but I’m excited that they’re taking on a more ambitious show and very much succeeding. I don’t quite have them in the medal hunt (the top of the field is just too stacked), and the statement “top placing band in LISD” is pretty bold considering Vandy is likely the best band in the country at the moment, but I do have them landing in the top half at the moment if they can hold off their LISD rivals, and that will be a huge accomplishment after a few years of sub-par appearances.

One thing I wish UIL would do is to split the bands into other areas when there is low attendance to area like in this case. So that way there is more intense competition. Which would make programs upgrade their shows just in case for a situation like this. Yes it’ll be more stress on other area competition for more bands, but gives opportunity for tougher competition.

  12. So is it a requirement for all MISD alumni to have a ViewFromThe(insert location) username now?

  13. So I looked into Townview center and it is one school BUILDING housing a few different magnet programs, so technically I believe it would count as varsity combined because they are combining magnet schools but it is only one shared band program.

  14. Being a part of cedar park in 2016, I have to say their show this year has some testosterone. Having a new creative head, they have ditched their "whimsical" vibe and going with more power, and I think it's treating them for the better. Craziest drill I've seen, reminds me of 2015 and 2008 (which, how they didn't win state in 2008 that year is beyond me, their drill looked like the drum corps the cavaliers inspired them, and with straight leg technique too) but anyways, back to 2021. They are powerful, and in tone and tune. More so than our year in 2016 I'd say. There are for sure things to touch up on, such as tempo in the feet and some of the drill spots. But their sound, woodwind runs, and brass hits are really on another level compared to previous years, and I think they will be the highest placing LISD school at SA this year, maybe even medaling for the first time at this insane contest. Vandegrift will give them a run for their money, absolutely. And I may be biased, but this my two pennies on the topic. Hope everyone is as excited as I am to attend, either virtually or in person.

For Reference: http://www.uiltexas.org/files/music/6A_Area_H.pdf And thank goodness it happened, since Leander wound up 5th at state, while Westlake ended up 21st oddly enough.

There are 29 bands that qualified, but I think Kennedale's spot still counts, even if they opt out.

Bad judge rule. Someone would have to dig up the exact ordinals but essentially Leander was ranked 3rd by two music judges and 3rd by 1 visual judge so they qualified to state based on this fact alone. Any band that gets a 3rd or higher from two music judges and one visual judge also qualifies to state and Leander fit that criteria. Leander finished 1 point below Westlake, so they didn’t tie but Leander still advanced.

  18. Yep, I just meant for making finals. Who knows what will happen at the top, but Summit is dangerous this year. I could see them winning the contest…Or Legacy…or Aledo, or, or, or…
