  1. Unfortunately I live 10 hours away from San Antonio now. I have a house rented for the long BOA San Antonio weekend, but that’s it. I think I’m going to figure out how to get down there early though. I just can’t miss it!

  4. That's exactly why I rented a house for the week. It's going to be an epic and unpredictable week.

  5. I think I’m going to have to get to San Antonio two days early so I can at least attend 5A state finals. I thought I could be content just watching it on Box5 but I truly don’t think I can stand missing it live!! ?

  6. I don’t think it’s wishful thinking at all. I believe it’s entirely within the realm of possibility with this year’s Life is a Cabaret show. I think they’ll be duking it out with Flower Mound and Avon for the Eagle.

  7. Wishful thinking but this season has me very antsy for another woodlands eagle!

  8. The Crowley band programs have sadly taken a serious down turn over the last 5 or so years. I remember when I was in high school in the 80's and 90's they were a massive powerhouse. That band could PLAY! However, splitting North to CHS proper really changed things. Both schools have great directors, but I fear the district isn't willing to support the programs like they used to. North Crowley was a state level band not too long ago, but the fall came too fast. I am not sure why both of those high school programs have slipped over the years, but I hope they improve.

    UIL 6A Area I 2021

The maximum number of bands that can qualify for state in this area is 6, but that would require for all bands (32 in total) to get a 1 at region. If three bands do not qualify for area, then Area I will only advance 5 bands (which is the likely outcome). With that being said, I think this area will be extremely competitive with Seven Lakes basically having a guaranteed spot while Cy Woods also having a really good chance with how their season is going at the moment. To add to that, the most interesting part (in my opinion) is seeing who ends up advancing out of so many highly qualified bands (ex: Seven Lakes, Cy Fair, Cy Woods, Tompkins, JET, Bridgeland, Cinco Ranch, and the list goes on...). Seven Lakes and Cy Woods have had really impressive results with Cy Fair and JET having neat finalist appearances in boa Conroe/West Houston. However, I wouldn’t count out bands such as Tompkins, Bridgeland, and Cinco Ranch from the conversation since there is still a bit more time of growth before Area begins. For instance, I know bands like Bridgeland tend to peak really late and I think with how their show is built, they can end up earning a lot of credit if they manage to execute their show at a high level. To conclude, I am really excited to see how everything turns out that day, and for anyone that is performing, best of luck and have fun!

  11. So as of this moment, this is my prediction for finals (in no particular order): Summit Azle Aledo Birdville Burleson Centennial Colleyville Heritage Legacy Midlothian Richland Granbury And then to be honest, I really think you can make a legitimate argument for any one of these 10 groups to grab a state spot. Every group is going to have to have their best absolute best run of the season in order to have a shot at advancing (which I know is a given, but even more so with this area). I honestly don't think you can lock anyone band into a state slot just yet. To me, this feels like a super wide open area because of how evenly matched everyone is. Can not wait for Oct. 23 to roll around.

  13. I actually have seen the contenders I mentioned above and I'll see Aledo this weekend. Aledo needs to bring their A game if they're going to win it...the three I mentioned are strong. Really strong. And I have no idea why I said BOA DFW was 2 weeks ago...I was just talking about it with my sister Sunday. Cranial flatulence? ?

    UIL Area F 5A 2021

BOA DFW was 4 days ago. Aledo was definitely cleaner and had a better run than Centennial on Saturday. It reminds of 2 years ago when Aledo was much cleaner early in the season than Centennial and placed higher at BOA DFW and BOA Waco. Colleyville Heritage was also finishing ahead. Centennial is really good at making adjustments during the season and incorporating suggested changes from judges. Now that's not to say it's going to happen the same way again this year. Aledo is really good and is the favorite, in my mind, for Area. Then we add the curveball of Richland and Summit back in 5A. Outside of Aledo being the favorite, I think it's nuts to predict the other 3 state qualifiers yet. There are too many variables and so much work being done every day with these programs. Also, I'm pretty sure no one has seen all the contenders in this group and are just going off what they've read in other comments. They've been in different contests with different levels of competition and judging variables and not all have videos that are findable. I think we can make some educated guesses on the finalists, but Finals is going to be a dogfight. Lastly....where we can submit a petition to the UIL to ban band directors from choosing "Pure Imagination" in their shows? ?

    UIL Area F 5A 2021

Cen10's shows were AMAZING in '18 and '19 - especially that '18 show with the bassline swap with different heads and costume changes. This year Midlo's show stands out more to me than Cen10's Of course I'm not a judge so I might be missing something subtle in the show that might propel them past Midlo's beautiful show, Summit's musicianship, or Legacy's all around effect.

    UIL Area F 5A 2021

I find myself agreeing with these advancements, with Richland and Legacy as bubbles to advance as well. What I'm most interested in is how this Area compete at state, given I'm in Austin now and get to see these bands every weekend. I'd love to see a couple Area F bands make finals! Sidenote, did you go to Kennedale? Just guessing from the area we're talking about and username

  18. their first trip was in 2011 and made finals in their 4th year of opening. after that I believe it was felt that we should stay in Texas and work on taking on the Texas schools and getting some wins at BOA and build their brand. 2014 wins in Conroe and San Antonio led to plans to attend Indy in 2016. 2017 was an undefeated season with wins in Austin, Midland and San Antonio and led to the plans for the 2019 trip to Indy. going this year puts them on the same cycle as TWHS and Round Rock. With the creation of out Bands of CTJ Foundation, it is our hope that we can support trips like Grand Nats and reduce the cost to ensure that every child has the ability to attend. this year our foundation has supported the Grand Nats trip for CTJ as well as support one of our cluster middle schools for their trip to Midwest Clinic in December and some new instruments for our other middle school. the goals of the foundation is to support the entire cluster. as many have noted, the cost of the trip is a major reason why so many schools limit their trips to Indy. I am hopeful that they stick to the every other year schedule but that ultimately will be a district decision as well as any desires for additional out of state trips. I don't know that they will ever do Macy's Parade but I believe there is a desire to make a return trip to the Rose parade. fingers crossed.
