takigan
Poor Area A doesn't have a thread . So I made one .
LKendrick
Since I seem to be the resident Area A guy on here... I fully expect El Paso Coronado and El Paso Americas to advance. Both have been trading off all year and are very solid, especially for up here in Area A. For the 3rd spot? Lots of bands, but I have my pick down to two. Odessa Permian got some fresh blood in the show design staff starting last year and it did spades for them design wise of course, but smart writing has really allowed them to blossom performance wise as well with something that is VERY well tailored to their talent levels. Frenship has advanced every year in either 5A (old 4A) or 6A since I can remember, so they're a favorite. Haven't seen much of them. But my picks are: El Paso Americas El Paso Coronado Odessa Permian Alternate - Frenship
BandG33k73
I'm an area A guy too and I've seen a couple of the shows since we competed out there and I wouldn't count out Abilene High or San Angelo Central either. Both are very good bands this year since I saw them at the Abilene Wylie contest

LKendrick
Odessa Permian advanced to state. Do not know who the other two are, just basing it off of some (VERY EXCITED) Permian acquaintances. :)
BandG33k73
That 1 random first place Abilene vote though
littlejaw
Looks like Permian Coranado Franklin Americas Though this is usually the area where an alternate matters right? I think I remember once or twice an alternate had to be used for ineligible marchers or something like that.
littlejaw
I also competed in this Area while in school though we lived nowhere close to west Texas. Gotta love that Texas Areas' districting.
LKendrick
El Paso Americas advanced on judges preference, placed in the top 3 by a majority of judges and advanced. Or something like that.

littlejaw
Oh yeah you're right. With only 15 bands total they got 4 spots. Do you think that is evidence of self policing for a system that is old and broken?
LKendrick
I'm too tired right now to dive into my thoughts on UIL judging. Haha. I do think the right bands advanced though, for sure based on what I have seen.

I do think the right bands advanced though, for sure based on what I have seen. And the almost always do, except for 2014. 2014 was something else. If there is not overhaul after 2014 then we most likely won't see one for a while. DHump
DHump
Is there an official score sheet available for final marching round? So Permian, Franklin, Coronado, & Americas are going to State competition from Area A?
takigan
Storing these here, because UIL will likely take them down eventually. 6A_Area_A_Prelims.pdf 6A_Area_A_Finals.pdf DHump
Xenon
Americas advanced due to the long-existing rule where: - If you are in a competition level that advances to a future level (prelims->finals or area->state) - If you are not already an advancer - If you are ranked top-3 (or top-2 for a contest only advancing 2) by at least 2 music judges and 1 marching judge (3 music judges or just "majority" is not enough) Then you advance in addition to the other advancers. In addition, in contests advancing two bands, any band that receives a ranking of two or higher from two music judges and one marching judge shall also advance to state. In addition, in contests advancing three or more bands, any band that receives a ranking of three or higher from two music judges and one marching judge shall also advance to state.
