  1. Don't Plano schools that only have sophomores and freshmen still compete though? Surely they are in marching band to get ready for the junior and senior years. I think I have seen Shepton or Vines at a contest before. I could be wrong though.
  2. I would credit both the funding each district gives to their programs and the massive amounts of effort the students and staff put in. A tradition of excellence has truly developed in these schools which is why, as their seniors graduate, the former freshmen strive to be just as good, if not better than that class. L.D. Bell and Marcus are both highly competitive schools and when you provide an atmosphere like that, there is no stopping them for a long time. However, the "dynasty" idea kind of already exists. One or two bands dominate for a good number of years then drop out. Then new bands rise and drop out after their run. This has been happening since the adoption of the drum corps style of marching by high schools.
  3. Send in the Clowns. The way the Vanguard plays it. That song is just so incredibly beautiful on a finals night.
  4. I agree that it certainly wasn't their hardest drill to date, but they all worked hard and I believe they deserved their high placement at Grand Nationals this year. Their drill is very visually appealing and I think their music also adds a ton of difficulty to their show as well.
  5. Pretty good compositions. In Texas, the music is played by at least two bands at each contest for middle schools. That's a TON of performances of his pieces. And it just so happens, that none of the bands that play his music get last place.
  6. Now that finals results are out, Congrats to all bands that participated! I will say, there was not a single band that wasn't good at Grand Nats this year. All were fantastic performers!
  7. You should know K3v1n, if I had Crown's performance recording from this year, I would be able to judge which is better. You should really send it to me so I can hear just how good it is, lol.
  8. Broken Arrow had an extremely difficult show this year. Riding bicycles out of the field while playing? Now that's just BA.
  9. I congratulate all of the hardworking bands especially Avon for another Grand Champion title! I can't wait to get the DVD for all of the finals performances!
  10. Congrats to all! My question is why didn't Martin place higher? The judges just had to give Johnson that extra .10 points?
  11. LD Bell Coppell Bowie Duncanville Marcus These bands all deserve finals spots at state for their amazing shows. The only one I woudn't include if we were going off of the concept might be Bell because of its non-originality.
  12. That would be Round Rock, of course. No beating the complexity of their show this year. Unless someone does some serious practicing and they don't. Anything is possible, but mostly improbable.
  13. Better this year with the top 3 except Blue Devils. If you want Cavs, Blucoats or Phantom I say 2010. If you want Blue Devils, Cadets, or Crown go with 2009.
  14. I love cymbal lines. So very unique in their own way.
  15. As for judges being on the field at ALL contests. No. Not the best idea. first of all, if I don't sound too horribly opininated, I like to see videos of bands performing without the judge getting run over by the snares. But for technical reasons, I would say BOA is really the only contest they need judges on the field. With so much going on all day, it would be difficult for the judges upstairs to hear everything precisely. At State, I don't believe it is needed as much although it would be logical for judging accurately. BOA needs to judge EVERYTHING to be exact and determine exactly what score each band gets because of its rules but State I think, simply needs a few good judges to hear everything right and score without the absolute need of a judge on the field although it might help.
