Exactly. Take Highland Park for example. Very small 5A band yet placed 2nd in 2019 and won area again this year. They march and play really well and at least partially overcome the band size deficit.

After prelims my predictions for area champions are as follows. 1. West Mesquite 2. Pine Tree 3. Crandall

1. Highland Park 2. Forney 3. Poteet

We’re possibly going to see only 2 or 3 bands advance to state because of the low amount of 5a schools with many being not having a historical record of advancing past region.

Judging was terrible for the entire contest, especially in finals. Definitely because of the weirdly devised rubric which made the job incredibly difficult for the judges to properly evaluate.

Going back to the beginning of this form and comparing predictions to what actually happened is hilarious.

I personally like the hi cam view. I would have loved to see Highland Parks show from a top angle. The improvement Highland Park is remarkable, and for a band of such a small size they make a huge sound. Congrats to all attendees of the 5A state marching contest and especially the 3 medalists. Can’t wait to see all the bands next year. Going to be extremely interesting with all the new additions UIL is adding. Going to be Spectacular!

I think UT Austin is definitely a lock for state finals after this stunning performance.

North Forney is not an alternate bc 5 bands from area c advanced to state.

I was under the impression 12 bands would be making state finals. I think that area B and C is will have the most bands in finals
