  1. James Bowie HS, Austin, TX is also on a 4 year rotation. Their last appearance was in 2016 which should put them in for 2020. That said, I think we would have heard rumblings of a an appearance next year and still reeling from their multiple staff changes these past 4 years I would think they would most likely be looking at a 2021 appearance, maybe, if they do decide to return?
  2. I doubt high and lows will be thrown out. It seems closer to what the BOA format will be. 4 music judges: Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion and Ensemble. Now I am assuming here that is what the 4 music judges will be scoring being that what we know for sure is that there are 4 music judges and there are 4 new sheets with these captions listed being proposed. I mean the pieces kinda fit...unless it's 3 music judges who get the ensemble sheets and 1 judge who gets to fill out the woodwind, brass, perc sheet. We will know for sure though by next marching season or sooner as news comes out. Then you have 2 visual sheets: one for ensemble and one for individual (this could explain the guy on the field that the other poster noticed) and the 7th judge looks to be more of a GE guy being as the sheet is labeled "Content & Design." Good contest though!!! Can't wait for 6A's next year!
  3. Dunno about that. And yeh the other poster later brings up great names and all but outside the top 3 the finals ordinals for the other groups was like a freakin dartboard: Rouse 5 and 10 in visual Friendswood 8 3 & 12 in music 4 & 9 in visual Lone Star 6 12 & 9 in music Same ol, good ol UIL... I'm curious to how the shadow panel with the new sheet did tonight?
  4. And throwing Roma into that mix, they had a 81.775 (Panel 1) which would be 7th right after Friendswood. Their absence in the SMBC next week will most definitely open up a finals spot for someone. And following up on t=some of the other groups that were not there, Sharyland HS with 2nd place at US Bands followed by Dripping Springs. Could have possibly had 3 valley bands in the SMBC Finals.
  5. I know apples and all, but the top score at the California regional was Ayala HS with an 85.3. In prelims Cy-Fair was 30th with an 85.325.
  6. Thanks all for the replies. I get it's a good deal IF I wanted to keep using it. Bet legit I only want to watch this Super Regional and thats it. So even $30 would be cool. I hope they can work this out cause ouch, $150 hurts. I guess I should take advantage since I will pay something right? I mean I really want to watch Pioneer too but was afraid to click anything for fear they would be like, "welp. looks like you used it, we are taking you for those $150."
  7. Question on flomarching? I just signed up as I saw $12.50/month and figured I'm ok with that and I just can cancel after next month (Similar to ESPN+ streaming service) expect I just got billed $150. Pretty upset as I didn't expect to be getting billed the entire year upfront. IS accurate? Do any of you pay monthly or do all of you pay for the full subscription upfront? *note* I did email customer support about this but I have no idea how long or when they will answer so wanted to get more immediate info from here as it has been like 30 minutes already.
  8. 1st post summarizes it well. But the biggest changes here are: -Area Contest every year -7 judges at State Marching for 5A/6A only CONSISTING OF FOUR MUSIC JUDGES, TWO VISUAL JUDGES, AND ONE CONTENT/DESIGN JUDGE -Separate state marching contest for military bands Also looks like a change to update the marching adjudication sheets that has been in the works by an ad hoc committee since July 2017. Looks like the 4 music judges will be adjudicating: Music Ensemble, Brass, Woodwinds, & Percussion with 200 points for each caption so a total of 800 total for music. Visual Ensemble (200), Visual Individual (200), so 400 for visual and then Design Content (200). Also as I mentioned earlier, this is from the committee timeline: Fall 2019 • Updated system is used possibly at the SMBC Only as a Pilot. (Possibly also used at one Area contest in conjunction with current system as a side-by-side test, but not for official results). Which means the sheets while close to done will be re evaluated, and tweaked if need be after the test run at SMBC, with training to begin next summer for implementation for the 2020 marching season.
  9. Also as far as changes to the state contest itself, I mentioned this on the other thread as well, but there is a proposed change to the 6A State Marching Contest in creating separate divisions, similar to what we see in the football currently. From the UIL Music Advisory Committee Meeting minutes this past July: NEW PROPOSAL A discussion item was brought forward from the Region 13 band division for UIL to create a Division I and Division II state marching band contest in 6A. This item will be included in the Spring 2020 agenda for all regions to discuss.
  10. The 7 judges passed. All changes though are still pending approval of the Commissioner of Education and if approved will be effective August 1, 2020. THE STANDING COMMITTEE ON MUSIC Passed the Following Proposals a. A proposal to increase the number of judges from five to seven at state marching band contests b. A proposal to establish a pilot utilizing amended rules for the sight-reading evaluation instruction period c. A proposal to limit the number of wind instruments that can be amplified at a marching band contest d. A proposal to hold the area marching band contest annually e. A proposal to require all marching bands certified to advance to the area contest receive a division 1 rating at the region contest f. A proposal to create an advisory committee for marching band competition g. A proposal to create a state contest pilot for military style marching bands h. A proposal to create a state contest pilot for instrumental chamber ensembles THE STANDING COMMITTEE ON MUSIC Denied, Rejected, or Took No Action on the Following Proposals a. A proposal to change the state solo and ensemble contest to area contests
  11. Also re: judges. I thought I also heard that they were going to be running a shadow panel in the new format at this years SMBC. I don't think they will release that panels rankings but it will be used to compare to the current format and I guess tweak before it's full implementation in 2020.
  12. C. Proposed Amendment Section 1107(g) of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules would be amended as follows, effective August 1. 2020, pending approval by the Commissioner of Education: FOR CONFERENCES 5A AND 6A THE UIL OFFICE SHALL ASSIGN SEVEN JUDGES, CONSISTING OF FOUR MUSIC JUDGES, TWO VISUAL JUDGES, AND ONE CONTENT/DESIGN JUDGE.
  13. Like I said, this is exactly the way I heard it explained to me. This move is a small step in to having state every year. Now it may not happen, but this is a way of testing those waters and getting folks on board and used to change before proposing the next change. And it was the directors that just voted to move in this direction.
