  1. Vote was the wrong word to use. I was referring to the piece where judges "place" bands. The scoring I'm used to in youth sports is elements judged independently (here let's say, musicality, drill, overall impression) then those elements add up to an overall score minus any deductions. Scores get ranked, top score wins. When I looked at the Area scores it looks like the judges award what place they think the band should get then those "places" add up to their overall score. If anyone has a link that helps me understand scoring I'm more then happy to educate myself. When I've asked other people what the difference between our band and say, Flower Mound is, all they say is "money". I'm hoping that's not the case.
  2. While everyone else is arguing over finals...I’ll just be salty that Martin and Bowie placed higher than us. LoL I’ll admit I’m lost. My background for scoring comes from my kids being in diving and all star cheer. You get scored, highest wins, no voting. I am truly super happy for these kiddos. It’s so much hard work and I hope Area B places well at State! For us it’s on to concert season and supporting our 7-0 undefeated football team!
  3. We were tied for 21st place or came in 23rd. To say our kids were disappointed would be an understatement. They basically took their dinner on the bus and headed home. It’s frustrating when you have judges not give one piece of negative criticism but then put you at the bottom. At least tell us what they need to work on. I was super happy to see Mansfield make it. My friend’s daughter is on the guard and they did not expect to final. They were hanging around because they knew Summit probably would. I’m surprised by Duncanville with the equipment failure but glad they got their 2nd chance!
  4. Mansfield was incredible. That horn line? As my kid would say...I was shook. Haltom was good but I feel like their props distracted from the actual drill. So many times groups were going behind those spinning things and you couldn’t see them. Their sound was top notch but all the bands have been incredible today. I am really feeling for these bands in the last block with this heat/direct sun.
  5. Our kid’s put in their best show yet. No regrets. They have 100% regardless of outcome.
  6. We have 19 (Arlington), my daughter is one. 15 march. One is a trombone because they had a kid get hurt.
  7. Right now I am the Drum Dragging chair. if you see Arlington live, you will see a mass of parents pulling all the instruments and electronics...I schedule all of that. My car has no less that 4 different magnets/stickers related to AHS band. I support the percussion competitions even though my daughter is a horn. I stayed until 1am helping with our annual chalk mural we do for our show right before UIL regional. I have worked 2 seasons of Rangers games slinging hot dogs and nachos to raise money. I don't know what I'll do when she graduates in 2 years!
  8. I don't have any predictions but I 100% believe in our kids and their ability to make finals. They have yet to peak, and if we peak at area...I'm okay with that. I know there are other bands that will only settle for an advancement to state, but our kids just want Area Finals. If they were by some miracle able to advance to state, we don't even care if we get to finals there.
  9. New member... You can probably tell from my username what band I'm affiliated with. I just want to thank you for your words on Arlington. Everything you said was 100% true. Our kids have struggled with their confidence all season. Not making excuses but the weather reeked havoc on our woodwinds, I don't know if the kids weren't prepared or what happened but our clarinets mentioned it as they left the field. I wish they could have had another run in finals. This has been the most difficult show they have had in years and they have really risen to the occasion. It has far been my favorite but I have a sophomore so who knows what will come her senior year.
