  1. I’m hopeful to see a Houston area band break into finals this year. Seven Lakes, Pearland, and Oak Ridge have made tremendous leaps in the last two years and I’m expecting to see one of these fight their way into finals.
  2. And when it comes to consistent runs Pearland showed they can do it. Clements has a 3 5 1 and 9 for marching in prelims and finals. I see the 1 as a blessing and the 9 as questionable. Did something go wrong in their first performance for there to be such a drastic change? And I’m in no way bringing down their program. They have accomplished great things and look amazing and will continue to improve greatly this week. As well as the other Area E finalist
  3. Pearland was dropped by one judge at Conroe and would’ve been finalists if not for the one score. They took first place in their area with two very consistent runs. I wouldn’t count them out of the running for finals. They’ll be in tough competition, as well as the other bands you’ve mentioned will be
  4. Thank you! Top 5 Predictions: Pearland Austin Clements Dawson Brazoswood Those are my predictions in no particular order
  5. Only 24 bands are on the list for Area E this Saturday. 4 bands for certain will be advancing. This competition should have a handful of great performances and bands in the running to do great things at State. The top contenders for the 4 spots in much opinion are... Austin Pearland Dawson Clements Brazoswood Dickinson Clear Brook Travis I believe the most competitive bands for the 4 spots will be the first 5 bands listed above. Brazoswood and Austin just slipped above Pearland at BOA Conroe. Austin and pearland came in 1st and 2nd at Friendswood with Dawson and Clear Brook in 4th and 6th. Clements had a score of 87.5 at the Katy Invitstional (where scores tend to be higher than those at a BOA competition) while Seven Lakes scored a 88.6 for their exhibition performance. SL did extremely well at BOA Conroe and came out on top of all of the bands listed above that attended, but they are not in this area. Brazoswood has been impressing me this season, but with scores so close there are no guarantees. This area will most likely have very close scores and it’s hard for me to predict the exact order of these bands in finals. If anyone has any information on Dickinson and Travis or any other potential state qualifiers in this area please share
  6. The Houston area bands should be on the rise this year with no so far setbacks like the hurricane last year. Seven Lakes, Pearland, SFA, And Brazoswood put on great performances at Conroe. Are these bands going to SR? And if so do they have a shot at finals?
  7. Pearland put their final movement on the field the week of Conroe, so the performance was unclean in the final minute or so of their amazing show. They missed finals by .4, and Brazoswood scored 78.25 in finals so Pearland was only .15 away from matching that score. It all comes down to them have a good run, and while it was amazing, they had a few issues and unclear moments that I’m sure will be fixed quickly. They were placed as 9th by almost all of the judges but one judge did not favor them as much and due to this their score dropped and they barely missed finals because of it. I’d still count them in the running for SR finals.
  8. Even with this change the Dawson band put on a strong performance at Friendswood. Beautiful and well performed music, but their show lacked GE. This director change doesn’t seem to have had much impact on the band so far. Pearland also experienced a director change, but only in one of the few that they have. Their head director is still there and continuing to lead the quickly improving band.
  9. Pearland has a very well designed show last year and they put on a great show. Performance wise they are continuing to grow stronger as a program, but with a more difficult theme (Their show is entitled Open and Shut), will they leave the same impact on their audience as last year? I’m excited to see how they perform on Saturday at Conroe
  10. They performed well at the Friendswood and left as crowd favorites. Their show is entitled Open and Shut and their props look like you’ve described. Their drill writer does write for the bluecoats. Their Friendswood performance had many sound board issues and a few tears. With a solid performance I believe that they could secure a top spot in finals at Conroe this Saturday.
  11. Pearland made great leaps last season with their show Trainscapes. While just missing finals by two spots at BOA Conroe, they left with many people questioning why they didn’t make finals. During their super regionals performance they started strong but had a major tear in their difficult last movement of Short Ride on a Fast Machine. Without these timing issues they very well could’ve slipped into finals. I would definitely call them one of the most improved bands from last season and I’m expecting great things again from them this year. Excited to see how they perform at Conroe on Saturday
  12. Scoring at Friendswood is generally very different from BOA from what I’ve experienced. This year there were also many difficulties with weather and many changes in the schedule which led to there being no finals. Pearland left as a crowd favorite but did not quite come out on top of the competition. SFA has their whole show, while not fully produced, on the field. I’m excited to see how they do at Conroe this weekend. As for Pearland and Oak Ridge, both bands put on spectacular performances.
  13. I’m new to this but I’ve read these forums for years now. I’ll take a crack at the top ten... 1. Woodlands 2. Vandegrift 3. Reagan 4. Bowie 5. Churchill (They tend to be stronger earlier in the season but with a score of 73.6 vs Vandegrift 82.3 at BOA Austin they may not be guaranteed top 5) 6. Cy-Fair 7. Pearland 8. SFA (not sure completely about this band because it’s been a while since they have been competitive at a BOA competition) 9. Clear Brook 10. Bubble Top 6 are for sure locks. The upper bubble competing for the last four spots consist of those listed, plus Seven Lakes, Brazoswood, James E Taylor, and Oak Ridge. I’ve heard great things about Seven Lakes but have tried not to buy into the hype. We’ll see if they have made as much of a jump in their program as it seems this Saturday with some very stiff competition.
