You will always be ale to count on Poteet for the military style marching to be around. I don't see them changing what they do. It may not be a "showy" as BOA style, but I find that style full of so much more energy and drive. BOA almost puts me to sleep, but I do appreciate the work of all high school bands. LMAO wow. Let's just move all the old 4A powerhouses back down while we're at it. Coppell, Keller, Hebron, Dickinson, Colleville Heritage, Connally, Georgetown, Grapevine, Leander, Fossil Ridge, Wylie, Lopez, New Braunfels, Belton, Allen (though that would be beyond impossible.) That would be epic. Georgetown will likely move down once their new High School completes its second phase of construction (it's incomplete form is currently serving as a Ninth Grade campus). Georgetown's 9-12 enrollment in '03-'04 (my senior year of HS) was something like 2300, now it's about 2750-2800~. If the campus's split sometime in the next couple years, they'll probably have 2 campus of roughly 1400-1800 students each (solid sized 4As). The completion date for phase 2 of East View HS (Gtown's 2nd HS) is currently unannounced. -------------------- Brandon Quam - TxB Staff Writer

Oh and Connally is more than likely going to move down to 4A as well (we barely squeeked in the 5A side of the line two years ago). Area D is going to be completely brutal in two years, with 6 previous state finalists, Dripping Springs, Connally, Hendrickson, Vista Ridge, Cedar Park, and Hays. Then you have schools like Vandergrift and Steele which are young and can make a huge splash with two more years of building.

It was announced at the football game Friday that starting next year Cedar Park will move to 4-A. If that's the case two years from now should be interesting with Cedar Park and a full power Vandergrift going head to head with everyone. lol NOBODY outside the Realignment Committee knows who will be 5A or 4A next year. heck, even the people on that committee don't really know for certain because they haven't decided which applications to "play up" they are going to approve. All of this "the AD said..." or "I know someone that said..." stuff is b.s. yes, one can make educated guesses. Legacy turned in 2379 on Snapshot Day and thus almost certainly will be 5A. However, until 2/1/10, nothing is for certain. This post has been edited by JagDad09: Nov 9 2009, 02:28 PM |

Absolutely. Nothing is certain, but having the numbers that the schools turned in allows us to make some good educated guesses (albeit without the play up petitions). On the play up topic, though, the UIL has approved an amendment for next school year allowing the music organization of a school to remain in the originally slated classification even if the rest of the school "plays up". So, even if Football plays in 5A, the band can still compete in 4A.

No kidding? I wasn't aware of that. Does the petition to "stay down" have to be turned in the same time as the petition to "play up"?
Also, word from people on the committee is that they are going to be real hard about granting petitions to play up. they think the only ones they'll even consider are the Eagle Pass and Laredo schools (extreme travel), Cy Ranch (turned in 1997 and has asked up via the 8 team district rule). Per some other websites, if those are the only approved "opt ups" the smallest 5A school will be Smithson Valley at 2052 - largest 4A Granbury at 2046.5 |

^how do you have half a student? The enrollment numbers for this purpose are based on the number of students in the school for 9th-12th grades. Some schools (like LD Bell) are only 10th-12th, so to equalize the numbers they estimate the number of 9th grade students through some sort of averaging process. This process sometimes creates non-whole numbers. -------------------- Daniel Sanchez - txbands.com moderator and txbpress staff writer.

^how do you have half a student? You need two things: 1. A chainsaw. 2. A friend who can keep a secret. I'm not sure how I feel about having the music organization and other organizations in the same school compete in different conferences. This is something that is quite common in college sports. For example, the Georgetown basketball team competes in the Big East Conference, while their football team competes in the Patriot League as an FCS team. Granted, the university added football back into their athletics' department a few years ago, but you can see that the new little rule that UIL added is not so uncommon. -------------------- Daniel Valdez - Master of Timed Wit and Marmalade Creamcakes

The thought of a 4A Cedar Park truly is frightening. I know nothing is for sure in marching band, but I really can't see many, if any 4A bands competing with that. 4A area D may just as well be just as interesting as 5A area D.

Well obviously Granbury is pretty much the biggest. I think Denton Guyer is still 4A and they have like 2040. The technical cutoff is something like 2050 (or is it 2070?).
EDIT: Oh, literally "BAND" sizes. That's a bit tough to keep track of since there's no central authority that keeps track of that info. -------------------- Brandon Quam - TxB Staff Writer

Who keeps official stats on band sizes?
Seriously, at the State Contest, I'm thinking Newman Smith has the largest band. Statewise, I have heard Plainview claim to be the largest 4A band in the state with 350+. Whether they really have that many or not, who knows. But their youtube videos sure make 'em look big: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Nc5Em8iw5c...feature=related I do know Allen has the largest high school band program in the state with over 600 (but they only march about 500). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvpaa4sScP8 |

Who keeps official stats on band sizes? Seriously, at the State Contest, I'm thinking Newman Smith has the largest band. We aren't that big of a band. Overall, with guard and alternates, we something have something like 185-200. Although according to the program, we have 150, but i don't think that's accurate. The program had Azle with 240, Friendswood with 235 and Frenship with 230 -------------------- NEWMAN SMITH TROJAN BAND

Who were some of the smallest bands? In prelims? In finals? The program says that both Galena Park and Edcouch-Elsa have 96 members, and it has the smallest finalist being Waxahachie with 122 -------------------- NEWMAN SMITH TROJAN BAND

Here is the link to a PDF containing all of the approved amendments to the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules: http://uil.utexas.edu/policy/pdf/LCAmendments2009.pdf Specifically, we are concerned with the #2 under Music: QUOTE Allow schools that 'opt up' a conference (participate in a higher conference that their enrollment qualifies) for reclassification and realignment purposes has the option to participate in music competitions in the conference in which their actual enrollment would place them. You can tell that it wasn't an English major that wrote that. . . . . -------------------- Daniel Sanchez - txbands.com moderator and txbpress staff writer.

Hey, the Cypress Falls HS band is trying to raise money and it would be greatly appreciated if any donations could be made.
