I don't know if you wanna give it away to others, or if your band directors let you, but I just thought if you know anything about next year's show you might wanna share. biggrin.gif

don't want to divulge too much about our show but it's REALLY dark...It's really awesome. quite artistic compared to what we have done in the past. plus, i think our band works a lot better with dark shows so it will be a nice change.

I too don't want to reveal to much about it, but I think ours is going to be quiet intense too. I was talking to one of the Assistant directors about it and he said we may try and get original music for the show. Should be interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing them pull it off next year.

We have no idea what the music is going to be, but the concept is becoming pretty solidified.

Connally's show next year is going to be extremly good next year. It will be a very different show than Carpe Noctem from this year and should make quite a statement at the BOA contests that Connally is doing next year. Oh and we are having a staff addition that will bring the show to an even higher caliber, but I will not say who just yet biggrin.gif.

Haha, I see I'm not the only one that's excited for next marching season. I just hope it will live up to my expectations, because so far I am really liking the music that we're going to play.

I don't wanna give to much away about our show either =P. I can say the whole thing is centered around one piece, and it will be pretty opposite from this year. There will be lots of woodwind stuff =O

The directors have dropped enough veiled hints for me to figure out what the show is...but the official announcement doesn't come until Monday. And I'll have to check with them to see if it's ok to post.

This is from Craig Fitzpatrick's website: (He's Cypress Ridge's designer:)

"Finding Sanctuary"

music based on:
John Mackey's “Asphalt Cocktail”
Eric Whitacre's “Water Night”
Verdi's “Requiem”

Knowing Fitz, it'll be an awesome show.

That'll be a great show. Mackey's "Asphalt Cocktail" is amazing and would go great on the field and Verdi's "Requiem" is one of my favorite pieces of all time.

I really wanted hear the premier of Asphalt Cocktail that was premiered yesterday by the Michigan State Wind Symphony at the CBDNA convention in Austin, but sadly I couldn't go and I couldn't get the live webcast of the performance to work either sad.gif.

Show writers seem to waste no time getting the latest stuff on the field. And that's one thing I love about this activity. I was amazed at how quickly Daniel Montoya got Eric Whitacre's The Stolen Child (disturbing name for a piece, btw :l ) put together for Brazoswood's show this past 2008 season considering the premier of it was done the previous April. I'll put money on there being some shows this Fall based around Whitacre's Paradise Lost--lack of available published score aside.

What's so hard about getting Carmina? Are the copyright holders pretty stingy with it or something?

Contrary to popular belief, Carmina Burana is NOT public domain. Much like Puccini, the rights of Orff's music fell to his estate. His estate has controlled his music since his death.

There was a time when they allowed Synchronization and Licensing Rights (permission to arrange) but now, they deny all requests and point to the ONE approved, "official", arrangement of the the work. If I remember correctly, it is distributed by Hal Leonard. But I could be wrong.

Yeah, Carmina Burana is on BOA's website as one of the pieces that nearly impossible to get licensing for. This used to be the case with music from SquareSoft/SquareEnix (Final Fantasy) but Westfield broke through that barrier. Persichetti is also very hard to get, but Churchill was able to do it a few years ago.

Oh, and just ask Montoya about California Dreamin.

Woah! I didn't know that Westfield played that show in 2004. I just realized the band I'm in played that in 2006, although I wasn't in the band at the time. We played about three of the same songs.

I heard part one today, and saw the score from my friend trying out for drum major (part of our tryouts is to conduct part 1), and it has tons of weird chords and some nice pit features. We are also going to play at least one movement at our spring concert, I'm excited to play one last show music, even though I wont march it.
