  • 2 weeks later...

I am going to reiterate this, but I think that keller has the best closer that any high school band has ever played. IT GIVETH ME ALL. THE. FEELZ. I can't fathom how amazing it's going to be when I watch it in person on Friday!! (Yes I'll get to be there nearly the entire day....so that means I will likely run into y'll at some point. I will probably be wearing my letter-man during the day.)

Hey I just wanted to post a video of our UIL run this past weekend. Great run for us. It's crazy to see the skyrocket improvement that we have had in just the last two weeks.

I am excited to finally start adding in the GE portion of the show for BOA and for cleaning . It's my favorite time of the year.

Side note - I cried on Saturday, and with absolutely no shame. It was my last UIL Marching contest. The emotions starting with another one of the seniors in my section giving a great speech to the section before warm-up started and completely let out when our head director, the great motivational speaker that he is, started talking about the seniors before we started warming up. There is so much to remember from this year. I mean, who would have thought that we would do so well in a transition year. Who would have thought that this show would have become something special. When the show concept was announced at the end of may, the band was not very enthused to say the least, but now we take complete ownership over the show and I can see all of the heart and soul being put into what we do. We rehearse so well this year and I am in love with every moment. I just can't wait for y'all to see what we have in store for San Antonio.

So, sorry for taking a moment to talk specifically about our program. I just wanted to get that off of my shoulders.

Another side note - Somehow in the middle of our performance on Saturday I managed to get a decent cut just underneath my eye that left a line of blood down my face at the end of the show that I wouldn't have ever noticed if someone hadn't told me as we were getting ready to push the props off of the field. I never scratched myself there and never got hit there so I have no idea how in the world it happened. It was pretty cool to say the least though. I wonder if anyone in the stands noticed.

EDIT: By the way, when the camera zooms on the pBone feature at the beginning of the closer, the kid that is standing in a wide "2nd position" and is tall is me. I'm the farthest one to the right.

Reading these types of posts warm my heart. No need to apologize about it. It will be incredibly difficult for me to forget the waterfall of emotions that flooded me after my UIL State 2018 performance. Best performance I ever had, and best performance that the majority of the band had that season (especially from my fellow seniors). Fitting that it would be the last — end with a bang.

So glad you have similar feelings. Just remember to never stop supporting your program!

Was watching bands today in my free time and I just realized that both Hebron and SFA used A Million Dreams AND the Voctave arrangement of Impossible Dream in their shows. I thought it was interesting because they were completely different approaches. Hebron has a fairly simple and a more deviating version of a million dreams (from the original) for their ballad with more solistic moments whereas SFA uses it very powerfully and beautifully in their opener. Hebron uses the extremely complex and musically intricate (almost carbon copy) of the Voctave Impossible Dream throughout their show, most notably in the closer, whereas SFA uses a more deviating but simpler version as their wonderful ballad.

Has there been a time when two elite programs (both super regional finalists this year) had such a similar music book? And who utilized it better? It’s so interesting to see such different yet effective approaches to the use of both songs.
