Let’s get 5 LISD-S in finals! It’s certainly in reach. LISD-S already has the record for most schools from one district in finals, with four. It has also now tied for most schools in the top half of finals with LISD-N. But LISD-N remains, with NEISD (multiple times over), as the only districts with two in the medal podium.

Indeed, LISD-N is the only district to have done this at both BOA San Antonio and 5A/6A State. LISD-S and Spring ISD have also accomplished this at State.

I’d like to add something that a lot of people seem to have missed. Weiss jumped 23 places from 58th to 35th as well as adding about 13 points to their score. They were only about 2 points behind Rouse this year and I think they could at least put up a fight in AA next year

Unfortunately Weiss lost their head director so I guess we will see how that affects them. In the event that it does not affect them all that much, we could also see them put up a fight at 5a state.

Will they remain in AA, or move up to AAA since they will have 10-12 next year? How large is the attendance there?

Weiss should be AAA. Their school size this year was in the 1600-1700 neighborhood.

Do you mean BOA adjusting their cutoffs? That just happened this year.

No I mean BOA reassigning bands to divisions. According to the adjudication handbook BOA will not reclassify bands till the fall of 2021.

Bands get reassigned every year as applicable. The cutoff realignments happen every three years.

Well then I have completely misread the rule book. I guess I was trying to make BOA a bit too much like UIL haha.

2019 predictions for BOA SA Finals - in Alpha order

  • CTJ
  • Hebron
  • Leander
  • Round Rock
  • TWHS

these are all Gnats bound programs and I have to this think that they will bringing a big show to San Antonio

I have heard about the "timing of the peak" but I do not see program missing finals in SA and pulling a medal 2 weeks later in Indy

It will be quite an interesting year with the GN bound bands looking to do well at SA and still not peak for two more weeks!
Each day is a gift. That’s why it’s called “the present.”

The last time there were 2 weeks between SA and GN was 2015. Hebron, The Woodlands, Round Rock, and Keller all made SA finals and GN finals that year so I would expect something similar in 2019 too. Keller Central was the fifth TX attendee that year, and missed finals at both contests (24th at SA and 22nd at GN).

In those two weeks, Hebron also added 6 points to their score to hit that record semifinals score. Could we see something similar happen next year?

I don’t think it’s a matter of peaking. BOA San Antonio is so much more difficult than Grand Nats. They should really rename it Grand Nats San Antonio. If Carmel and Avon came down to TX for this contest there would be different results than Grand Nats.

I really hope 2019 is the year Timber Creek finally makes a super regional finals appearance. They definitely deserve it.

TC and Seven Lakes are my two to make it in next year. Hoping for greatness from both this year!

I agree with this statement. With Grand nats basically being the same week as UIL state and a week later than BOASA now, its hard to make a case that bands performing at Grand nationals are all that much better than they were a week before at Boa San Antonio, given how hectic their schedules are.

Simply performing the show in competition so many times over the course of a week or two helps them improve, even if there isnt much time for actual practices.

Peaking in any performance art is a real thing. The more professional you are you can extend your period of improvement, but there comes a point where your excitement and energy for the show are so intense that they cant be genuinely reproduced again. So it is the goal of bands that go to GNats to reach their maximum intensity at the last performance that matters most. This is why so many big groups save big surprises for GNats.

That is definitely true as well. Im sure those kids at Prosper this year were much more confident with their show after their stellar performances at BOASA and 6A state this year.
