Bold: Made state on last state year

Italics: Made area finals on last state year

--

Area B will have 5 state spots with 25 bands currently qualifying, 1 more will qualify by default or with a 1st division after Region 32, raising it to 26.

Key Bands: Argyle, Canton, Wills Point, Melissa, Farmersville, Community (unheard of, but they are AMAZING this season, they've made so much progress). Anna and Krum could make some noise too.

The first 5 are almost certainly locks, I see Community finishing 6-8, but maybe knocking someone out for 5th. Anna and Krum will be anywhere from 5th - 12th, Krum got 10th at area in 2016 but also made state honor band in 2017, so I'm willing to bet they've improved, Anna is just always a solid program

--

Area C will have 5 state spots with 24 bands currently qualifying, 2 or 3 more will qualify by default or with a 1st division after Region 9, raising it to 26-27.

Key Bands: North Lamar, Spring Hill, Little Cypress-Mauriceville, Lumberton, Paris, Bridge City, Pleasant Grove. Less likely but potential surprises are Bullard, Chapel Hill, and Gilmer, those 3 military bands have really impressed me this year!

Edit: I also have to mention Brownsboro, they have a REALLY awesome "milicorp" style show that was super unique and challenging, if it's cleaned well between today and area, I think it will do great. I LOVED watching it.

First 3 I mentioned are locks for sure, Lumberton, Paris, and Bridge City could go either way for the 4th and 5th state spots, but I have lots of confidence in BC after their recent honor band success, and Paris is a constantly improving program with nowhere to go but up after their first state trip.  Pleasant Grove is historically one of the most unpredictable bands I have ever seen, but their random state trips and recent area finalist finish makes them worth the mention.

Bullard made area finals for I believe their first time in 2016, and is improving each year, I watched them on stream today and was very wowed, but I'll leave it to the area judges to see how far they've really come.

For Area C, I watched Region X In person. Lumberton was significantly more impressive than LCM. If LCM is a lock, I don’t know how you wouldn’t have Lumberton one as well.

This was basing it off my past impressions, I had only gotten to see Region 4 and 21 bands. After receiving videos though I'd definitely change my mind about that, Lumberton is definitely going to go beat out LCM for it, my only critique is that I believe they could handle a much more difficult show.

Fair enough. I was actually surprised Lumberton was even a 4A and not still on 5A. Maybe I was just distracted with their rainbow, but I thought musically and visually they were by far the best at that region of any classification. I do think they run a little too much. That would be my biggest criticism of them.

I wanted to like LCM’s show, but I just didn’t. It was a little strange and I am generally not a fan of a lot of talking/voiceovers. Plus the phone beeping noises were annoying. They’re still a good band and may make a run at area and get to state. I don’t think any others from Region X have a shot.

LCM's is definitely off on design, honestly I think it's rather questionable, but it's being executed fairly well, just not on the level 2016 was (Mind you 2016 got 11th at state, and after getting 3rd in honor band I expected them to be state finals good this year). I think Bridge City has the best designed show there, it's harder than Lumberton's but not as non-nonsensical as LCM's (Lumberton still wins best flow of the show though, it's just so well pieced together), it just needs to be cleaned a lot, which is always possible in the week leading up to area.

I still think it's so crazy that last year Region 10 was hit so hard by Hurricane Harvey.

Lcm had to have both the junior high bands share part of the highschool band hall for most of the year, and the kids only had half days because the junior high kids had to go to school at the highschool since both Jr. Highs flooded.

And I know there is a photo from Lumberton where you can see a stop sign underwater from a boat and it went viral because of how shocking it was to see the water that high.

I am really proud of Region X for bouncing back this year!

NETexas - the five bands you bolded were the five that advanced out of area C. Impressive!

Those were actually all bands that made state last time, that's why I bolded them lol. I actually fully expected Bridge City or Pleasant Grove to take out one of them. But my personal top 7 (which had no paticular order) was right.

Just a few notes about my hometown schools-

My family over at Pleasant Grove told me this was their 4th timing missing state by 1 spot in 10 state years, talk about bad luck jeez.

Liberty Eylau was an interesting suprise to Area finals, it's their first time to Area since 2006.

Congrats to all the bands today!

im from community and yes we got 6th place in prelims but in finals we got to excited and bumped down to 9th and btw both of those performances weren't even our best we had the potential to go to state. :(

Bands that went to state were argyle, melissa, canton, wills point, and anna .
