What I want to see most is for Vista Ridge to have a breakout year and start competing at the level of the other 3 big LISD schools, as well as see Haltom make S.A. finals.

I think you guys are going to come out and KILL IT again this year.

OTOH, BOA Austin is an entire week later than usual this year, so maybe more of the bands will have their entire show laid down by September 29th.  Then again, schools are starting a week or two earlier up here in the ATX than we have in the past, which means we won't have that extra week of rehearsal in August that we usually get before school starts, so that could hold us back a bit.  Yeah....CTJ takes it all again.  I'm saying it now.

I am looking forward to a great season - there are a lot of programs that I think will jump out this year - Bowie, RR, Leander, Reagan to name a few will be bringing a strong program -  what will TWHS look like with no Harvey impact? Hebron, Marcus and FloMo will have a great programs - but the real question is if they will cater to BOA or UIL? and what impact will that have on the BOA scoring at the regionals and at BOA SA? I am confident that CTJ will have another great show as well and they continue to grow in size.

I enjoy DCI - but I say - Bring on BOA season - September cant get here quick enough

like you, we have an alumni child - we make these family road trips since we don't have to stick to band schedules. We are planning McAllen, Austin, Dallas or Houston (not sure yet) and Waco. We make it a road trip and stay over at a hotel rather than drive back after the shows.

we have gone to the Austin BOA every year since it started -don't think we are going to miss this one

Actually planning to get a hotel on the river walk for the weekend of BOA SA and see every band on Friday and Saturday and just uber back and forth

Should be another great season

The Lewisville ISD schools have done a pretty good job at striking the balance between making BOA judges happy and making UIL judges happy in the even-numbered years of the State contest. One of the schools has swept BOA SA and State in 3 of the last 4 State years (Marcus in 2010 and 2012, Flower Mound in 2016), so they should be just fine.

I'm super stoked. I dropped marching band in college (my university lacks greatly in that department, but the concert band is fantastic) largely so I could attend more competitions (not to say that it was the only reason). Right now, I've got BOA Midland and Area D 6A Area on my calendar for sure (only about 2 hours from my campus), debating between BOA DFW and Vista Ridge MF on the 6th, looking at BOA Waco seriously, and really wanting to go to BOA San Antonio if I get a place to stay overnight.

My school's football schedule kept me from most competitions this past season, so I'm looking forward to truly diving in this year!

Oh, I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only alumni band fan!  My daughter and I had such a great time last year going to Austin, DFW, Houston and San Antonio.  It was even more fun with her sitting next to me than when I was watching her on the field, though nothing can compare to watching her perform at Grand Nats in 2016.  That was the trip and the experience of a lifetime!

We do the hotel thing, too.  Or stay with friends.  I'm not trying to drive back at midnight after sitting in a football stadium for 16 hours!

We have similar plans for BOA SA this fall.  Last year we stayed in San Marcos with my middle daughter in her apartment, but driving back and forth so late at night was a bit tedious.  I also have rheumatoid arthritis and I get EXHAUSTED after those long days in the Alamodome so we are going to get a hotel right by the Alamodome (I think there is a La Quinta within walking distance) this year so I can go back and forth and rest.  Then we can also enjoy the riverwalk too!

BOA Waco is the only one I'm not sure about....we shall see.  So excited to have all of these events to look forward to this fall!  I love that Texas has so many opportunities within a few hours drive for us to enjoy marching band.  We are blessed!

I agree it can be done - CTJ won gold at BOA SA in 2014 and a UIL Bronze - my point is that many schools take a very different approach to state VS non-state years. I think we can agree that UIL has gotten a little closer to BOA but there is still a pretty big gap

This is how the top 6A bands scored in 2016 with UIL 1st, BOA San Antonio 2nd, and Grand Nationals for those who attended. There’s still enough of a gap - excluding Flomo -

UIL 6A 2016. SA Boa. GN 2016

Uil=1 Flower Mound boa=1

Uil=2 Hebron boa=5

Uil=3 Marcus boa=6

Uil=4 Vandegrift boa=7

Uil=5 Keller boa=13

Uil=6 Reagan boa=8 GN=7

Uil=7 Leander boa=3 GN=6

Uil=8 Woodlands boa=2

Uil=9 Bell boa=16 prelims

Uil=10 North Shore boa= na

Uil=11 Coppell boa= na

Uil=12 Round Rock boa=10

Uil=na CTJ boa=4 GN=9

Uil=5A CedarPark boa=9 GN=5

As a recent graduate of Keller, i'm hoping they keep moving up and up as well as Timber and Central! I know the title of their next show and who I think it is based on but thats about it.

Also, I just found this website and have been binge reading all of the different forums from the past years and it is so interesting to see people's predictions.

I think VR can do it and if Haltom is even better than last year could they squeeze into the top 10

I heard that haltom had there first marching practice this week . And the high schooler who are already there learned 2 movement of music as well as did Fundamental . One of the band parents where talking about it to me. They are pushing harder than ever before and I’m so thrilled for them .
