Woo hoo, a Louisiana band!! Go Lafayette!

Reminds me of an old song. Louisiana woman, Mississippi man, we get together any time we can...

Heh, I digress.

Okay, I thought so. I'm old, so I go way back to where most of the marching bands in this part of the country marched military style. In the early to mid 70's, we kept hearing about this awesome "corps style" band in Lafayette -  Acadiana HS. We had a week with no football game, so we drove to Lafayette to watch them at their halftime to see what all the excitement was about. They were awesome and it changed all of our lives forever! After then, military bands just seemed less exciting and left me wanting something else. Kind of like eating cookies with half the sugar all of your life and then eating one with all of the sugar. Those half-sweet cookies just don't satisfy you anymore.

Liberty-Eylau did a lot better than I expected them to here, even though they did come in last in finals, but they were really motivated at this contest as well (they were really quite upset after UIL and were pretty hellbent on proving them wrong in a way), as well as putting on the best show they've done in years. I'm proud of them.

And congratulations to the winning bands as well! I know I didn't see their shows, but I bet they were awesome.

In terms of acoustics on the ground, it wasn't too too bad. The echo went up, which was a lot better than our band was anticipating.

Can you enlighten us about the process/logistics getting on to the field?  Was it smooth for you all or were there some challenges?

From what I heard, they didn't even have concessions. What kind of contest doesn't have concessions!?  :o
