whitewing09
I was wondering if people feel that "the other Nats" prioritizes different factors from Nats. Specifically, on average, does SA weight difficulty more than cleanliness? Obviously both are very important, but either can bleed their way into GE, for example. It was really interesting to see CP destroy at Gnats. Their show was probably one of my top three favorite this year, but it was a completely surprise to see them in the top five. I'd attribute that to their flawless execution. I believe a lot of people thought their show design would hold them back, but it actually worked out really well for that. On the other hand, I'd argue that CTJ had one of the hardest books that scored relatively well at SA, but didn't really score well at Nats. For example, they almost got last in MPE and trailed Reagan in MGE by a full point.
BandG33k73
You have to remember that it's still a different contest, in a different part of the country, with different judges
Omega
You have to remember that it's still a different contest, in a different part of the country, with different judges Well, oddly enough of the 22 (excluding timing) judges at GN 8 of them were in SA (36%). So 57% of the panel at SA judged GN. So it would be very improbable that 57% of the panel at SA judged differently in Texas than they did in Indy. I think (and I was at GN and SA) that CP put a much better show on the field in Indy then they ever did in Texas. Although it is also possible that 64% of the panel at GN did judge differently than the 36% who were at SA. Although I'm willing to guess it could not have been that different (just looking at individual judges scores).
natertater21000
I honestly think it was very different. Cedar park got a huge GE boost from the out of state judges that propelled them throughout the weekend.
principalagent
I honestly think it was very different. Cedar park got a huge GE boost from the out of state judges that propelled them throughout the weekend. The judges at BOA San Antonio weren't at all from Texas, actually. Not a single one. On the other hand, five judges at GN were involved in Texas at one point of their careers/education or another. I personally think their show just came together a lot better by GN. Even a huge difference between prelims and semis and again in finals.
Xenon
Cedar Park's show never fully took ahold of me until Grand Nationals when every bit of the design and the entire story line finally all came together. And I think that CP was also the best sounding band at GN from a full richness and clarity of sound standpoint while that wasn't entirely true in San Antonio. natertater21000
Personally I didn't really notice a difference, nothing was added from SA to nats for cp. Maybe it was because I had seen the show so many times but it honestly felt like the same show a tad cleaner. They were fantastic, but I just didn't get the feeling they were top 5 or 8 points better than they were in San Antonio.
Hard Core Band Fan
I've learned over the years to not underestimate Cedar Park. Many times, most all of the discussion is on other bands and CP steps up and passes most, if not all of them up. I fully expected them to be the best Texas band at the Grand Nationals.
