Indianapolis is getting incredibly hard to make finals at. 21st at Arlington doesn't bode to well. Although, I always want to see a Texas band succeed and have no problem being proved wrong on this. takigan Posted October 22, 2015 Report Share Posted October 22, 2015 Finals at Indy is tough to crack....Probably the hardest regional retreat to get into next to SA. But the quality drops pretty steeply to resemble the other midwestern regionals once the GN regulars have seated themselves in the Top 15, since Indy doesn't attract much of the GN talent from outside Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. I still think Richland is GN semis worthy...and thus I can see them in the 18-25th range at this contest, despite getting 21st at Arlington. I see Mansfield Timberview in the top half as well despite being 23/32 at Arlington. In other words, the finals tier at Indy is stronger than the finals tier at Arlington.....but Arlington is deeper than Indy top to bottom, which means even the lower ranking bands can do quite well at this contest. I feel confident those groupings will remain those groupings. The 6th - 12th one is the fun one, it was INCREDIBLY close last year, lots of bands on similar levels. I think it's safe to say Avon and Carmel will be the top 2. The real question to me is who lands in 3rd. Three bands also on similar levels, Blue Springs has been hot out the gate this year. Homestead is always a fantastic program, and of course Marian is Marian. I have Richland on the bubble, after the 12th or so it drops off some. I think Richland has a chance of sneaking in. I still find their music GE to be a little weak compared to the competition, but I could see their ensemble scores (and music individual maybe?) improving from two weeks ago. I most definitely agree with you on both points. There's a lack of impact from the brass at big moments, even if there is some good technique in moments which aren't meant to be impact-ful. I didn't get to watch Arlington, but I still wouldn't have guessed that two weeks ago the production was worthy of 21st place. Were they just visually dirty along with the lack of MGE then? I also thought that in this performance just now they had good VE moments of just being quite clean while marching less than easy drill (even if at other less important areas it was fuzzy compared to that; but it was still decent to my eye in those areas if we're considering it independent of the cleaner bits). takigan Posted October 25, 2015 Report Share Posted October 25, 2015 Richland: 22nd out of 64.They had a Finals-tier Music score though. 14th in Music overall (receiving a higher music score than Lake Central (IN); who placed 8th overall in Finals).4th Best Music in Class AAA (out of 17).
