After Marching Season... |
|
Yes folks... that (beloved yet hated) time is approaching as we near the THREE final contests of the 2005 marching season in Texas. Granted, these events are not small ones: UIL 4A State, BOA San Antonio Super Regional, and BOA Grand Nationals in Indianapolis.
Expect to see predictions for 4A State and Grand Nationals this week. BOA SA predictions are already up and have maxed over the 200 vote mark! Incredible!
The end of the marching season brings the satisfaction of the production of shows at their best. It also brings the beginning of the duldrums for TxBands.com... We enter the 8 months or so before DCI hits the road? Will TxB stay alive? Of course! Will anyone visit it? Probably not.
Though sad (I will miss all my beloved members) we hope to suprise the community with many new features to satisfy your band craving. We would like to launch an online store to sell shirts, coffee mugs, etc with band-y logos and slogans that you can show off to your friends. We also promise to figure out how to operate Fantasy Marching Band for next season so FMB and Predictions can go hand and hand as the most incredible band website features to be concured on the face of the Earth! Also, we hope we can finish our "Features" section to get ready for the news of the off season, as well as 'Resource' sites that can be implemented by band directors to communicate to their students.
Also expect some changes to the current features like the memberbook... we'll try to establish better connectivity and more features, etc.
And in conclusion, does anyone know anything about the upcoming Winter Guard season? That is pretty much the only thing we have to keep the site alive during the dead season. Leave a comment here or catch me on the forums!
Thank you everyone! If you choose to ignore us until things spice up next October... that's fine. I PROMISE we'll be here. |
|

MeetMe At Retreat: BOA Houston and San Antonio! |
|
This year Clarinot and I will be attending the BOA Houston Regional and BOA San Antonio Super Regional with our band, and we *should be* at the retreat at the end of the contests. So it came to us (in Physics... who would have guessed)... Why not meet TxBands.com members at the regionals after retreat?
And so it evolved into what I am typing right now. I promise Clarinot and I will be there to shake everyone's hands, poke a little fun at people's postings, and get FREE stuff!
Heck, bring your friends! They can join and get free stuff too!
Below are the locations for where we want to meet on the field. For reference purposes (if you are not familiar), facing the field from the front, "Side 1 or A" is left of the 50 and "Side 2 or B" is right of the 50.
BOA Houston
Side 2 (Exit Side)
10 Yard Line
FRONT Hash!
BOA San Antonio
Side 1 (Exit Side)
10 Yard Line
FRONT Hash!
In a rush? Its ok. It'll only be a few minutes!
*NOTE!!!*
Clarinot and I will not be at the specified location for a few minutes after we break ranks because our director will probably want to give us some closing thoughts on the performance. I PROMISE WE WILL COME! Wait for us!! |
|

To get involved with the drive (its 100% free) either read the post in the News and Announcements or give your fellow band nerds your username and this link:

Anyways, we've been here for 75 days and we have 500 members.... absolutely incredible! Thank you, everyone! |
|
Update (Members + Member Map) |
|
Well its been about 2 weeks since there has been any major news in the band world. The forums and such have really slowed down on weekdays (we have about 3x the user visits on Saturday compared to the previous week combined), but that is due to everyone's favorite activity, SUMMER BAND CAMP! Yes Yes, before you go running off with joy, I should point out that me and Clarinot also have band camp (we have REAL lives... imagine that). So, really all site develop is on hold.
That said, I should mention the easy stuff (at least on our end) that we have added. The member (alumni.. whatever) section is ready, and can be accessed via the members button at the top. If you keep getting hit by popups, I am deeply sorry. I get them too, but I don't know how to stop them! The Members link also goes to the User Webpages (which no one ever updates... haha). Also, this morning, Clarinot took the 2 minutes to install the member map, and I took the 5 hours to find and edit that Texas Map to only be Texas (sorry New Mexico, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Mexico) and look good! If you live out of Texas, you can change the map to be the United States (Minus Texas).
Anyways, I know I talk about what I want to add to TxB a lot, so I'll do it again. I'd like to re-write the main page and have a static info paragraph (this changing news confuses Google), maybe a comic (any ideas?), and THEN my paragraphs. And then I want a features page for articles and bandish news. Then there is always the fabled links page. And maybe a TxB store for shirts and such (I'll post about this later).
Well, as of this minute we have 366 Members in 48 Days... wow. Thanks everyone, and happy Marching! |
|
Happy Birthday TxBands.com!! You're 1 Month Old! |
|
Get the Cake! Bring your plates! It has been one month (give or take a few minutes) and boy do we have reason to celebrate!
Special thanks go out to each of the 274 members that have registered with us. Many thanks to all of our moderating team for keeping everything at par.
Personally, I want to express my gratitue to all the people in the REAL world that I have gotten to know: Matt at IndianaMarching.com, Scott Miles with the Texas Band Movie (bandthemovie.com), Skramp with SkrampsNewPlace.com, and mbui who helped me at the BOA forums and at SCBandFan.org
Just because the website is 1 month old does not mean it won't grow! We are looking into adding a Features page for articles and news, a links section, and another TxB original, a band Alumni section so you can stay in touch with your band friends for years to come!
I've really had fun with the website, everyone. Thanks a lot. A toast to TxBands! |
|

|
Success? Well... YEAH! |
|
I think you'd have to be crazy to say that TxBands is not successful. Thanks to each of the 50 new members who registered in the last 24 hours... All I can say is.. WOW! So far the feedback has been good, and finally we are beginning to see some areas for improvement for the site:
The BandBucks system has not really turned out as planned. We are probably going to disable the system, totally rethink it using YOUR input, and possibly re-introduce it at a later time. Feel free to add a comment with your thoughts on BandBucks here, email dynasty2@gmail.com, or PM us.
To our suprise, we have used a considerable chunk of our webspace (not bandwidth). We suspect that there are un-used PHP files floating somewhere, and that this is not caused by user media. (only about 300MB are media). This might hinder the media uploads for a little.
Just a general FYI, the directory is currently set-up so that after the user inputs the info, an email is dispatched to me and Clarinot instantly. I always see these when I am at my computer (due to an email notifier) and authorize the changes. So, even though it looks the same before it was edited, it'll be updated soon.
Well everyone, thanks for the best 24 hours. Tell ALL your friends to come, the more members means a better community to all. Make sure to check here for announcements! |
|
